About the host: Brené has decades of experience studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy. She’s also the author of five #1 New York Times bestsellers. In addition to being the host of this podcast and an award-winning author, she also hosted one of the most popular TED Talks ever published, called The Power of Vulnerability. She’s no joke!
Why we love it:Brené tells it like it is. If you’ve ever needed a little boost of motivation (or a free therapy session) you’ve come to the right place. Brené approaches any emotion, any story of growth, failure, loneliness, connection, with an analytical eye and open heart. Her guests range from pop music icons to renowned emotional researchers, and even former US presidents, but it is never arrogant. It’s a mental kickstarter and refresher that we (I) desperately need nowadays to keep my mind healthy and my body moving.
Favorite Episode: This podcast is binge-worthy, but an episode that I can’t get out of my head is “On My Mind: RBG, Surge Capacity, and Play as an Energy Source”. My motivation during the pandemic my motivation has seemed to come in surges and when it’s gone, it’s gone. This one reminded me that when we view exercise and work as play, you’ll want to do it.
( Exploring wellness trends & a healthy mindset)
About the host: Rich Roll’s life story is motivating in and of itself. Today, Rich is a graduate of Stanford University and Cornell Law School, vegan ultra-endurance athlete, former entertainment attorney, father, husband, and full-time wellness & plant-based nutrition advocate. He wasn’t always on the track to wellness - he once struggled (and overcame) alcohol addiction. It wasn’t until his 40s that he became a vegan and Ultra-athlete. Now, his story and his ability to share stories is what has landed him amongst the top podcasts of all time.
Why we love it: Rich is unrelenting in his study of wellness, fitness, nutrition, and a healthy mindset. His episodes are a longer conversational format, so it’s perfect to wake up with as you head into the gym (or home gym).
Favorite Episode: There are hundreds of episodes to choose from, but lately, episode #514 “Chris Hauth: Tactics for the quarantined athlete” has helped me to stay motivated and excited to achieve my fitness goals, even from home.
About the host:Drey Ackerman is here to keep you company as you drift off to sleep! Drey was inspired to make this podcast when late-night comedy radio was the only thing that helped him fall asleep. He wanted to provide that for others. One of the best things about Drey? His voice!
Why we love it:Now, obviously this isn’t the podcast you’ll tune in to while you’re pumping iron, but it does contribute to one of the most important pieces of your wellness - sleep. Drey helps to calm your mind and keep you company in order to ensure a good night’s rest. Episodes are about an hour-long, some recount stories from Drey’s past, some discuss the Great British Bake Off. The point is, you never know what you’re going to get and they’ll make great company as you drift off into Never Neverland.
Favorite Episode:With 900+ episodes designed not to keep your undivided attention, it’s hard to pick.A more recent one that I like is #915 “Beetlejuice | Tale of the Tape” as he recounts what it was like to see this film for the first time.
About the host:Ben Greenfield is… a superhuman. Since high school, he has always been at the very top of his class academically and in extracurriculars. Today, he is a relentless self-experimenter and biohacker, professional obstacle course racer, competitive open water swimmer, mountain runner, adventure racer, and was named of the world’s top 100 most influential people in health and fitness. That’s your host!
Why we love it: When it comes to biohacking (fitness, fat loss, digestion, recovery, etc.) Ben knows his stuff. He makes sure that you will know it too by explaining the science in a way that anyone can understand. He seems to have all the answers to any of your fitness or wellness questions and releases new episodes twice a week. You’ll always be surprised with something new and inspiring to optimize your fitness routine.
Favorite episode:There are so many episodes to choose from, and most cover more than one topic. Any starting place is a good place to be! I liked “Inside The Bizarre World & Strange Science of Exercise Recovery: What Works, What Doesn't & Why Many Studies Are Flawed.”
Everybody’s workout tunes are a little different, but if you’re growing tired of the same old songs on your sweat it out playlist, we have a couple of suggestions!
Music is the ultimate motivator. It can distract you from pain and fatigue and boost your mood to help you get through the extra mile! Likewise, taking a mental escape by tuning into a captivating conversation or podcast to keep your mind active and increase your endurance. If you’re in need of a change of pace (figuratively or literally) we hope these playlists and podcasts will help you to power through your next workout and keep your wellness goals on track!
