What is collagen, exactly?
Collagen is a protein found everywhere in our bodies, making up over 60% of our total protein. Collagen protein contains 18 amino acids, including proline, arginine, glycine and hydroxyproline. These promote rebuilding, rejuvenation and growth in: Skin, Muscles, Hair, Joints, Nails, Hearts, Liver, Prostate, Blood, Cells and Lungs.
Unfortunately our body’s collagen production drops off as we grow older. By age 40, our collagen depletes faster than it is produced, and by age 60 we only produce 50% of the collagen we did at age 30. That’s a significant decrease.
How do I take Amandean collagen?
Collagen peptides dissolve into liquids, meaning it can be mixed into smoothies, soups or even some baked goods. Collagen is tasteless, so your meal will be as edible as it was before.
How is Amandean collagen produced?
Our collagen is sourced from 100% pasture raised grass fed South American cows. It is non-GMO, contains no gluten, wheat, corn, eggs, dairy, soy, or yeast. Rigorously tested for purity and packaged in the USA at a state of the art FDA-cGMP compliant facility.
Is Amandean collagen natural and free of contaminants?
YES. Our hydrolyzed collagen is 100% all-natural collagen and free of pesticides, hormones, chemicals and contaminants. Amandean collagen contains no additives.
Is BSE a concern with your bovine collagen peptides?
BSE, popularly referred to as Mad Cow Disease, has been in the news recently and prompted many collagen fans to worry about the susceptibility of their products.
The bottom line: The US Animal and Plant Health inspection Service (APHIS) ensures that all animal products imported into the USA satisfy their unyielding health standards, without any health risks, following the guidelines put forth by the Organization for Animal Health (OIE). The OIE conducted a comprehensive study on BSE and its affects on bovine products like collagen and gelatin. The study revealed that there is near zero risk of BSE transmission in food products such as milk, gelatin, and other hide based or boneless originated products.
In addition, the March 16th 2012 US Department of Agriculture report states that the manufacturing process of Gelatin and Collagen further decreases the risk of BSE infection beyond the conclusions of the OIE.
What is the molecular weight?

What does pasture raised mean?
From birth, our cattle are raised on lush grasslands, giving them space, areas to graze and freedom to roam. Stress-free cows means a better product.
What countries do the cattle come from?
From South America, including Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay. With abundant open pastures, these countries favor grass-fed grazing for their cattle. We select the best of these farms and source our bovine hides from there.
Are Amandean’s collagen peptides hydrolyzed using heat or are they enzymatically processed?
They are enzymatically processed, which is the best way to keep the health benefits intact.
Can I take collagen with other prescriptions or medications?
We recommend that you consult your Doctor before mixing any or our products with your current prescriptions or medications.
Can my children take collagen?
We highly recommend that you talk with your paediatrician before introducing your children to collagen, as each child’s nutritional needs will differ.
How do collagen peptides differ from gelatin?
Collagen peptides dissolve in hot or cold liquid, whereas gelatin can only mix in hot liquids but will return to its gel state once the liquid cools. In a health context they are very similar, although the shorter amino acid chains in collagen peptides are a little easier to absorb for our bodies.
How should I store collagen?
It is recommended to store in a cool, dark area away from moisture.
I am new to collagen, which product should I start with?
Each of our collagen products offer different applications, which you should consider before making a purchase:
Beef Gelatin is ideal for cooking & baking as it blooms in hot liquids and can be used for soups, broths, and baking.
Marine Collagen & Collagen Peptides are both cold & hot-water soluble and are easy to mix in coffee, smoothies, and juices.
Although the benefits of our collagen products are similar, beef gelatin has longer protein chains which can travel further down the intestinal tract before being absorbed, therefore having a greater effect on gut health.
What is the difference between bovine collagen & marine collagen?
The difference is the animal source of the protein. Amandean's Collagen Peptides and Beef Gelatin contain collagen protein found in grass-fed cows. It's almost identical to the kind of collagen we have in our bodies, which is what makes it such a popular and effective dietary supplement.
Marine Collagen is derived from the skins of wild-caught Atlantic fish and offer the similar health benefits as collagen from cows. Marine Collagen has shown to have up to 150% more bioavailability in humans making it a popular choice as a supplement.
What are the differences between multi-collagen & regular collagen?
Once collagen is hydrolyzed (broken down into short chain amino acids, aka peptides), it is difficult to differentiate between the different types of collagen. The main difference between multi-collagen and regular collagen are the source of where the collagen is derived from (marine, bovine, porcine, poultry cartilage, egg shell membranes, etc.). They all contain the same 18 amino acids (albeit in slightly different ratios), so it doesn’t make that much difference.
The downsides of using a multi-collagen are that the sources of the ingredients, especially when sourced from chicken, are often from China or India. The other downside to multi-collagen is that they have a reputation for being unpleasant in taste and therefore less appealing than a normal collagen supplement. Often the fish portion comes from farm-raised tilapia. Amandean is committed to the cleanest and most sustainably-sourced ingredients so for this reason, we have stuck with single-sourced collagen peptides from marine & bovine sources.
Do you perform testing on your products?
All our Amandean products are rigorously tested for quality and purity in the USA in registered facilities. We adhere to cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices).
When do products expire?
Most of our products have a 4-5-year shelf-life. Best by dates are printed clearly on the bottom of each product container.
Are Amandean Products Vegan?
None of our collagen products are vegan as they are sourced from beef or fish. As of right now, we have yet to find a known source of vegan collagen. Our Boswellia Serrata Extract is Vegan-friendly.
Where can I purchase Amandean products?
